Weather in California is Brrrr….cold. It seems like it is winter again in middle of May. I hope we get the sunshine soon. How is weather where you are? Here some great reads around the net that you might like.
On other notes, school and kindergarten is busy as it is coming to end in less than a month before summer break. My SIL and BIL, had a baby a few days ago, so we have been busy and really excited to have new addition to our extended family. R and P are happiest cousin to have another baby to play with. R is already ready to teach him ABCD and more…
I wanted to share a few great reads from the net;
- I generally do not do much guest posting (3 guest posting and 2 online magazines) in almost 2 years as I am slow guest poster too 🙂 I recently did a guest post for a blog friend Eric from Eden Journal, where I talk about my decision to leave my six figure income to be at home with kids about 6 years ago. I really never talked much about it here on my blog before. Read it here: Important Things in Life.
- As a mom and teacher, I am always looking for ways to learn and educate kids that will engage them in to creativity without spending lot of money. While ago, I found a great free resource that may help you as well with your children and best part about it? it is free. Check out here: Khan Academy.
- For those of you have read my car free or car owner post, might be interested in this story from Herald, Open Stroller ban in commuter bus and train?. We are not car free, but occasionally we do bus and train ride with kids to museum or other big event where parking might be an issue. If this ban becomes reality in other places, it might prevent many parents who are working on going car-free. I personally think, bus and train should accommodate strollers, cycles for many who are trying to make and live green, don’t you think?
- This is a great illustration on how an average US consumer spends his or her paycheck here, your spending might be similar or will surprise you. Check it out here: US Consumer Spending. Insightful for sure.
Enjoy.

Hi Zengirl,
Loved your guest post at Eden Journal, very inspiring story! I liked the other links, I am sad to hear about possible stroller ban in train and bus though.
Hello, Weather here in Illinois is same…Too cold for May. We had our record low for May last Monday. They say you tell if someone is from Illinois if they wear a parka and shorts at the same time :p
About the stroller/bike ban on public transportation; In St. Louis (which is close to me) we walk in Forest Park, and use public transportation to get there (the metro link) Fortunately, there is alot of public transportation in St. Louis that is stroller/bike friendly! Even most of the bus services are bike friendly.
Hi Zengirl,
It’s cold here in Southern California too. I hope my poor tomato plants don’t drop all their blossoms!
Thanks for the links to so many interesting articles around the web. About the stroller issue, it sounds like they are not banning the strollers, just requiring them to be folded up on the bus or train. I can see where this would be difficult, though, carrying a baby, diaper bag, and whatever else.
Hi Betsy,
Yes, weather is sure bit strange around. I had put away winter sweater away thinking it is almost summer but I had to get it out and I am glad to bundled up.
I know the issue is with open strollers, while I can understand the safety issue but it is simply hard for many parents, who use stroller for diaper bag, snacks and other things. Just imagine if one had 2 kids, you would have to carry child, hold another one and carry everything that was in stroller, while trying to fold the stroller. It would simply create hassle for many parents of young kids. If I did not have kids, I would not have realized it too. Thanks for chiming and understanding yourself of how it would be difficult.
Jasmine,
I lived in Illinois for awhile, I loved the city but do not miss the snow and cold windchill weather! 🙂 I like your sense of humor. I grew up in seattle where rain is normal even in summer so I know how it could be.
I think bus and train should be bike and stroller friendly for those who really want to go car-free and save environment. This open stroller ban may cause some issue with some parents, specially with 2 or more young kids.
Gloria,
I am glad you liked my guest post at eden journal. The ban is for open stroller though, however it is still causes difficulty for many parents who use stroller for carry it all, including me. Many times I use slings or baby carrier but now my little P is getting bigger and not suitable for slings anymore.
Hey Preeti!
Thanks for sharing these articles with us. Looking forward to go through the saga of you leaving your job and getting yourself involved in these things, indeed a sacrifice.
Anthony,
I do not think it’s as a sacrifice, otherwise I would not have done it. While earning six figure was great and was able to spend money on things I like but I find staying home with kids have enhanced my life quality and it is little more tranquil. I just have to find other ways to make money without losing this tranquility.
Hmm… refreshing reply. I had thought that it was a reluctant choice, not a volunteering one!
